1994 Mazda RX-7 engine conversion to GM LS1 and Tremec T-56
This LS1 RX-7 has been a 3 year project for me so far. I started looking for a clean donor car 3 years ago with several things in mind. First, No salvage, nothing wrecked, and no frame damage. Also I wanted a 94 model because I had heard the interior was of better quality. I found this car in Arizona and shipped it to Texas. It was a complete car minus the engine and tranny. It had never been wrecked, and it was in good shape. It was perfect for my plans.
I am a Service Director at a new car dealership, so I had some of the best ASE factory trained techs anybody could wish for at my disposal. I figured it would take me some time to collect all the parts to build such a swap, so I sent the car to "The Body Shop" in Dallas. I knew them well because they do all of the dealerships work, and I knew that they just do really good work. After 12 years in Arizona, the original Vintage Red color had just faded away. So the car was completely taken down to the raw body and painted right. No cheap Maaco type paint job was going to happen to my car. Once completely repainted and reassembled she was ready for a new beginning.
I used Granny's conversion kit because at the time Hinson SuperCars were chopping up subframes and rewelding them, this just didn't seem right so I went for the new Granny's kit. I had to wait a while for the engine and tranny from LKQ. I knew the guys there and had them keep an eye out for a complete car with low miles when it came in. So finally it came in. While waiting for that, I did some research on the camshaft. I found a good article online by Super Chevy called "Three's Company", look it up its good info for the XR275 I went with.
I could go on and on. I have spent an enormous amount of time researching just the right parts for this project. (just ask my wife) Look at the parts list to the right. In almost every case the parts were purchased new.
So now I'm selling the car, Why? Well I have been working long hours, 2 kids, no time. Its just sitting in my garage. It needs a couple of things to be finished. First it needs to be dyno tuned or street tuned. It's running way rich right now. The plastics on the driver door panel are weak as with most I have seen, and it's missing the power mirror switch. A/C work needs to be finished. The condenser is mounted but lines are not done. The hoses and fittings to finish this can be bought from Earls or Aeroquip without any trouble. It needs the air filter configured properly. That would just take a couple of silicone hoses and a K&N filter. As you see in my list below, I have spent allot of money and time on this car.
If you live in or near Dallas, Tx, email me and I will show you the car. I am selling the 3 web domains, the car and the Texas plates come with the car. All the gauges work and function correct. I will also include the LS1 RX-7 bible, it has all the wiring schematics and notes I used to build the car. I am also including a factory rear wing I bought and had painted, an extra ECU, a MAF, and two extra beautiful steering wheels.
